The 2025 edition of From Chinatown, With Love centers on the idea of framing and celebrating the community from within. Through the visual identity, we aimed to amplify new voices while honoring the long history of New York’s Chinatown. A vibrant pop pink was chosen as the primary color to bring a contemporary energy to the project while referencing the bold visual culture often found in traditional Chinatown signage and street graphics. A custom frame system was developed as a core element of the branding, symbolically “framing” the stories, people, and businesses that shape the neighborhood.

Calendar:

This year we also reimagined the traditional calendar format by creating a fabric calendar instead of a paper one. The textile format transforms the calendar into a lasting object—something that can be hung, kept, and used beyond a single year—while expanding the possibilities of print and material design.

Posters:
To celebrate the neighborhood, we created custom posters for 25 selected Chinatown businesses. Each poster highlights a local shop and is inspired by the vibrant visual language of Hong Kong flyer-style street posters, combining bright colors with layered typography to capture the lively atmosphere of the community.

Red Envelopes (Artists A Liang Chang, Mischelle Moy, Jia Sung, Stefanie Tam, Rose Wang, and Fiona Ye):

For the giveaway items, we drew inspiration from the tradition of red envelopes (红包), which are used during Lunar New Year to pass blessings and good fortune to younger generations. We collaborated with five artists, each designing a unique snake illustration for the Year of the Snake. Each artist also selected a popular item from one of the featured businesses and transformed it into a small collectible sticker.

Door God (Artist Singha Hon):

Exhibition: Wood Snake 木蛇

The exhibition, Wood Snake 木蛇, is curated around the ideas of celebration and cultural education. The installation introduces visitors to the rich history of Chinatown and the traditions of Chinese culture while highlighting the stories of the participating businesses. A snake motif appears across the gallery windows, moving through the space as light shifts throughout the day—from morning to night—symbolizing the flow of time and daily life. The snake becomes a quiet companion throughout the exhibition, representing resilience, transformation, and continued support for the community in the year ahead.
