Trash Island is a newspaper that provides valuable information on how we can transform trash - including the newspaper itself - back into something useful. After the reader is finished with the newspaper, simple instructions will guide the reader to turn the paper into a small trash can using origami. The design of the paper is based on a treasure map which leads us to find the treasure within the trash. Thus prompting the reader to rethink their relationship to waste.

Trash Island also guides the reader to find their personal “trash persona.” From Diogenes Syndrome, which views all manner of objects as treasure, to “trash artists” who repurpose waste into something meaningful, every trash persona can discover their own unique way to breathe new life into their refuse.
