CORE77 DESIGN AWARD

Roles: Lead Designer & Project Manager

For the Core77 Design Awards, we created a brand identity based on the concept of opening doors. The system reframes design awards as an accessible platform rather than an exclusive institution—inviting participation from a wide range of voices and disciplines.

Visually, the identity translates this idea into a flexible system of expanding frames and layered compositions, suggesting movement, access, and discovery. The result is a brand that reflects the diversity of its participants while maintaining clarity, adaptability, and cohesion across touchpoints.

Typography - Main Typography
For the main typography, we introduced a pairing of serif and sans-serif typefaces to create contrast and hierarchy across titles and informational text. This combination allows the identity to balance clarity with expression—using sans-serif for structure and readability, while the serif adds character and emphasis in key moments.

We kept the original logo and treated the typographic system as a campaign layer specific to this year’s awards. This approach maintains brand consistency while allowing flexibility to introduce a distinct visual voice for the current edition.
Typography - Secondary Typeface
The secondary typography introduces a more playful layer to the system, used to distinguish between award categories and bring variation across applications.

While the Core77 Design Awards includes over 30 categories, we distilled them into six core themes: Creative, Technology, Environment, Humanity, Lifestyle, and Product. Each theme is represented by a distinct typeface, creating a typographic voice that reflects its unique focus and character.
Color Palette Category
Each category palette is typically built from two primary colors, which are combined to create a gradient. This approach introduces depth and fluidity into the visual system, allowing colors to transition rather than remain static.

The use of gradients reinforces the idea of openness and movement—echoing the concept of “opening doors” by suggesting progression, transformation, and the blending of different perspectives.
Iconography Design
As a final layer, gradient-based icons were created for each category using their respective color palettes. These icons enhance recognition and unify the system, translating the identity into a clear and scalable visual language.
